Abstract
Choledochal cyst is an interesting condition, both from the pathologic and clinical stand point.
As to etiology, the consensus of opinion from this and other articles, seems to be that in the case of a true cyst of this type, the condition is one of congenital maldevelopment of the common bile duct. The condition is said to occur more often in the female than in the male, and more often in children than in adults.
A triad of signs and symptoms, abdominal pain, jaundice and tumor mass, is the most important diagnostic feature, especially in female children.
An accurate preoperative diagnosis has been associated with a marked decrease in the mortality.
The treatment of choice is surgical, such as choledochocystoduodenostomy or choledochocystojejunostomy.
Two cases of choledochal cysts are herein reported and literatures are reviewed.
